DEARBORN — Deputies of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Internet Crimes Unit arrested a local schoolteacher who they say showed up for a meeting with whom he expected to be a 14-year-old boy for the purpose of having sex with him, Sheriff Warren C. Evans announced on Thursday, June 20.
Officers arrested the 37-year-old Dearborn resident, Steven Lysogorski, Wednesday afternoon at a meet location just outside of Detroit after the man had chatted explicitly online for the past week with an undercover deputy posing as the young boy. Since his arrest, Evans said the suspect indicated to officers that he has worked for the Dearborn Public Schools District for approximately 15 years and is currently assigned to supervise middle school students who have been sentenced to detention.
According to investigators, the man’s plan was to have oral and anal sex with the boy in his Toyota Camry, which he drove to the meet location. In exchange, the man allegedly offered in his chats with the undercover officer to provide the boy a cell phone so they could use it to arrange future trysts.
“It is very disheartening to see someone who has one of the most sacred trusts possible — the supervision of children — allegedly violate that trust by engaging in this type of behavior,” Evans said. “Fortunately, our investigators were able to intercept him.”
Evans said that the suspect chatted with his officer five times over the past week and immediately began expressing his desire to have sex with the young boy with whom he believed he was chatting.
Evans said the suspect is single with no children. Preliminary investigation has revealed no prior criminal record. The suspect was expected to be arraigned Friday in Hamtramck District Court on charges of Illegal Use of the Internet / Child Sexually Abusive Activity, a maximum 20-year felony if he is convicted.
