DEARBORN — A man inside a house began shooting at a Dearborn officer and a woman on the 6900 block of Yinger early Sunday morning as the officer was responding to a domestic disturbance call. The officer immediately got the woman out of the line of fire and to safety.
The shots had come after the officer made contact with the victim, who was walking down the street crying.
One shot came close to the officer’s head, while several other shots struck a nearby tree causing branches to fall to the ground.
Additional officers converged on the area and set up a perimeter, believing the shooter was the woman’s boyfriend, Dearborn resident Lovell Finley, 26.
Officers were able to establish phone contact with Finley, and convinced him to leave the house and surrender. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged Finley with two counts of assault with intent to commit murder; one count of felony firearm; and one count of domestic violence.
Finley was arraigned and is awaiting preliminary examination in the 19th District Court, which is set for September 28, 2007 at 9 a.m. before Judge Hultgren. Bond is set at $500,000.
