Dr. Paul’s key issues — ending the occupation of Iraq immediately, abolishing the draft, defending the public’s civil liberties, limited government, and sound monetary policy — are expected to resonate well with the student population, who overwhelmingly supported the candidate over his Republican rivals in an informal survey conducted by the student newspaper The Michigan Daily. The Youtube video “The University of Michigan Supports Ron Paul” recently drew the candidate’s attention as droves of students enthusiastically expressed their support for the libertarian Republican.
With 50,000, Ron Paul has more registered volunteers than any other presidential candidate. He has also received more donations from active-duty military than any of his rivals, and his popularity on the internet is legendary. He has out-ranked each of his Republican rivals one-on-one in a majority of GOP straw polls and placed ahead of Rudolph Giuliani and Fred Thompson in the Michigan Republican Straw Poll.
