DEARBORN — It’s not often that a young actor receives the opportunity to work with theater professionals, yet 18-year-old Sean O’Reilly is now appearing in a drama being produced at Meadowbrook Theater. The Dearborn High School graduate is starring in “Rabbit Hole,” David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, which is coming directly from its Tony Award winning Broadway run. The play opened on Jan. 9. This emotional story of a family who must cope with the tragic and sudden loss of a child in an automobile accident is Sean’s first professional theater appearance. He is the only non-professional actor working in this small ensemble. “Rabbit Hole” is making its Michigan debut at Meadowbrook, located on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester Hills. Meadowbrook is Michigan’s largest non-profit professional theater. Sean’s theater experience includes starring last year in Dearborn High School’s production of “West Side Story,” for which he received a local PAGE award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical with his portrayal of Rif. Sean, who is now attending The University of Detroit Mercy on a full scholarship, was recently seen in the UDM production of “Back of the Throat,” a play dealing with the issue of ethnic profiling in the post 9/11 climate. Sean’s interest in acting was instilled in him by his parents, Dearborn Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr., and his wife, Chris, who both have performance experience and degrees in theater. Sean hopes to soon pursue a career in film and television, either at UCLA or The University of California, Berkley, where he has already been accepted. “Rabbit Hole” is playing at Meadowbrook through Feb. 3.
