STERLING HEIGHTS — The 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration of Macomb County will take place on Monday evening, January 21, 2008 at the Best Western (Sterling Inn) in Sterling Heights (34911 Van Dyke). The theme for the 2008 MLK Celebration is “Where Do We Go from Here?”—a question first asked by Dr. King in his 1967 address to the 11th Convention of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Forty years after the Detroit riots/civil disorder/rebellion and forty years since the formation of the Interfaith Center(s) for Racial Justice, this challenging question remains ever relevant. The annual MLK Holiday Celebration at the start of the New Year has often served as fuel for those working in Macomb County and the surrounding area for peace and justice. This work can often be challenging and difficult. Gathering with others committed to implementing Dr. King’s “Dream” can often provide the inspiration or encouragement needed to keep moving forward. At the 2008 MLK Celebration guests will be asked to ponder collectively and individually “Where Do We Go from Here?” Individual seats to the January 21st MLK Holiday Celebration of Macomb County can be purchased at $35 per seat or at a slight discount of $250 for a table of ten. Note: there are no “physical” tickets to the event. Seats must be reserved in advance by either calling the ICRJ office at 586.463.3675 or via email at curroicrj@sbcglobal.net
