Arab American inventor showcases radar device
Troy — A Lebanese-owned company in Troy introduced a collision alert radar system Tuesday to be used in commercial trucks for detecting the danger of a possible crash.
Radar Safety Technologies (RST) intends for the FrontAlert system to be used on commercial trucks installed as a small dashboard device that will forewarn the driver when there is a need to stop.
The system measures the distance between the truck and the vehicle in front of it and combines it with its speed to estimate how far the driver should apply the brakes. Alarms go off when speed and closing rate create a danger ahead.
George Rashid, president and owner of RST, came up with the idea of having radar object detection in cars when he was stuck in traffic one morning. Two years later, the company now manufactures the product is introducing it to major auto companies.
