DEARBORN — Dearborn’s 84th annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 26, and will follow its traditional route in east Dearborn: on Michigan Avenue from Greenfield to Schaefer.
Event organizers considered the possibility of moving the Parade to west Dearborn this year, due to the reconstruction of the Greenfield Road bridge over Michigan Avenue, because the project impacts the Parade’s traditional staging area.
However, a plan has been developed to minimize the project’s effect on Parade staging, so the event will go forward in east Dearborn.
Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr. said: “Dearborn is a community that takes Memorial Day very seriously. Being able to maintain the Parade’s customary route is an important way to help continue a great City tradition.”
Mayor O’Reilly urged the public to plan to attend the Parade. It begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 26.
In addition to paying tribute to those who have given their lives while serving in America’s armed forces, this year’s Memorial Day Parade will also honor those who care for the wounded. Serving as grand marshal of the Parade will be the Surgeon General of the U.S. Navy, Vice-Admiral Adam M. Robinson, Jr.
Further details about the Memorial Day Parade will appear in coming weeks in newspapers, at www.cityofdearborn.org and on CDTV (City of Dearborn Television; Channel 12 on Comcast, Channel 10 on WOW!).
