NOVI – The 13th annual Michigan International Women’s Show rounds up some popular women’s favorites at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi Thursday, May 1 through Sunday, May 4.
“You and your girlfriends, sisters and moms can enjoy shopping, makeovers, cooking demonstrations, entertainment and much more all in one place,” said Beth Anderson, show manager of Southern Shows. “Some other special features include Hannah Montana’s older brother from her television show, Jon and Kate from the TLC Show “Jon and Kate Plus 8,” Novi firefighters heating up the runway with the latest men’s clothing from Macy’s and visitors can ask various doctors their health questions.”
Shelley Kincaid, The Garage Sale Lady and author of “The Garage Sale Decorator’s Bible,” will make home decorating projects, reveal tips and ideas and teach you how to find and revitalize treasures as recycled d’cor to furnish your home as seen on her “Trash to Treasures” TV show and appearances on HGTV, DIY and Discovery Channel.
Jon and Kate Gosselin, from the TLC and Discovery Health reality show “Jon and Kate Plus 8” will tell about raising their eight children, three-year-old sextuplets and seven-year-old twins, and how they carry out regular life events to create a normal and happy childhood (Saturday only).
Jason Earles, who plays Miley Cyrus’s annoying older brother Jackson Stewart on the Disney Channel Original Series “Hannah Montana,” will answer questions and sign autographs, sponsored by Detroit Medical Center (Sunday only).
Cooking Light magazine’s Executive Chef Billy Strynkowski will create his low calorie, full-flavored recipes and share his passion for food and entertaining on Cooking Light Day (Friday). A free magazine will be given to the first 1,000 showgoers.
King Arthur Flour Company’s National Baking Class Instructor Carolyn Hack will demonstrate the basics of working with yeast and yeast dough, shaping techniques and have free recipe booklets along with samples to try (Saturday and Sunday only).
Michigan Chapter of the National MS Society will sponsor Plates & Palates Chef Bill Pikarski preparing selections that appear in his “Cooks & Cars – Recipes by Design” cookbook (Saturday only). Century Grille Executive Chef George Hamiel will feature menopause cooking during his “Hot Flash” presentation (Sunday only).
Chicken and dumplings, sandwich and snack wraps and healthy meals will be demonstrated on the KSI Kitchen & Bath Cooking Stage. “Dumplings ‘N More” author Anne Grimes, Aussie in the Kitchen Chef Paul Penney, Capuchin Soup Kitchen Chef Alison Costello and Taste of Detroit Chef Showcase from Pi, Sea Grille and Il Posto restaurants will present recipes, tips and techniques.
Doctors will provide answers to questions during their Doctors Are In segments hosted by Emory King (Saturday and Sunday). Explanations on the latest developments in women’s health, cardiology, pediatrics and answers to other health related questions are available individually at the DMC Pavilion sponsored by Detroit Medical Center.
Novi Fire Department’s charity fashion show will heat up the runway with firefighters modeling the latest in men’s clothing from Macy’s on Friday and Saturday. Additional spring fashion shows will run during the show.
Attendees of all ages will have the opportunity to make a craft project for free using recycled materials at the Recycling for Learning and Fun Arts & Scraps Pavilion. Coupons and samples will be available from Starbucks, Panera Bread, Kitchen Basics Cooking Stocks and Flatout Bread.
Other features will include Do It Herself Spotlight Stage, Thursday’s Nurses Day with special savings, free water bottles to the first 500 attendees and healthy cooking classes sponsored by the Michigan Nurses Association and Sunday’s Mother & Daughters Day with a lookalike contest.
The Michigan International Women’s Show is presented by Detroit Free Press and sponsored by The Detroit Medical Center. Supporting sponsors are Estroven, KSI Kitchen & Bath, Kroger and Michigan Nurses Association.
Rock Financial Showplace is located on Grand River Avenue between Novi and Beck Road in Novi. Show hours are 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday and Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $9; youth 6-12 $5 and children 5 and under admitted free with a paying adult. Advance tickets, which include a one-year subscription to “Ladies Home Journal,” are $8 online.
