DEARBORN — The Lebanese American Heritage Club and Arab American Scholarship Foundation held their Annual VIP Student Recognition Luncheon at Lowrey Middle School in Dearborn where 122 middle school students of high academic distinction received certificates for maintaining a 3.5 GPA and above throughout the year.
Qualified students are directly and solely selected by their school administrator based on their overall academic performance and character. The LAHC/AASF invited the students to a special reception where they had pizza (provided by Pizza Kitchen in Dearborn) and juice (donated by Wal-Mart Super Center in Dearborn) and received Certificates of Recognition to honor their educational success.
“The LAHC and AASF wish to recognize students of high achievement and encourage their academic endeavors and advancement,” stated LAHC Executive Director Wassim Mahfouz. “The youth are our future and we hope they will continue to carry the torch for us.”
The LAHC’s Education Committee works closely with the school administration to facilitate and organize the event.
Present were various sponsors of the Arab American Scholarship Foundation, including University of Michigan, Army ROTC, the U.S. Navy, Wayne County and Wal-Mart Super Center in Dearborn.
“The LAHC takes great pride in this event as it recognizes a vital component of the youth community; the middle school students,” explains LAHC Vice President Suehaila Amen. “This program encourages students and gives them the confidence and momentum to excel and become successful. Through this initiative, the LAHC hopes to promote community involvement and activism which will benefit the community as a whole.”
