DEARBORN — While I.Design Hair Spa isn’t in the same area as other salons who specialize in satisfying Arab clients, that doesn’t mean they don’t take the same challenge personally.
“About 10% of our clients are Arab but we have a section for people who wear the veils and a private room for it,” said manager Sue Beydoun.
While Beydoun has had a hard time drawing Arab clientele away from the East Dearborn region, she wanted to stress that location isn’t important when it comes to finding the right place to get the right hairstyle.
“I have clients and I know what Arabs like,” she said.
“People who work for me worked in East Dearborn before. People might think I’m going to cut their hair different than more Arab places but I know how to do it and how to please them.”
Beydoun and her stylists’ versatility was vouched for by customer Maria Movski of Dearborn Heights.
“I love coming in here,” she said. “I always bring in pictures of different hairstyles and she does the exact same thing.”
The salon, which opened two months ago and is located at 1810 N. Telegraph Road in Dearborn, considers itself an upscale place at reasonable prices and a good alternative to the chain haircut places that seem to have taken over in the Southeast Michigan area.
And unlike most other haircut places in the area, I.Design offers a variety of other procedures that will leave you looking and feeling good for summer.
Popular services include waxing for hair removal done in a private room, facials, makeup applications, hair extensions, massages, pedicures, and manicures. Even men enjoy some of the services, which fall under the category of pampering.
“Guys come in for waxing, massaging, manicures and pedicures; it’s the in thing for people to take care of themselves, especially men,” said Beydoun.
Thus far, Beydoun says customer satisfaction rates have been high, but that doesn’t mean that the staff of I.Design is resting on their laurels by any stretch of the imagination.
Beydoun and her hand-picked staff are hair aficionados who travel to hair shows on their days off to learn the latest techniques. Each person focuses on a certain talent such as Beydoun, who considers herself a hair colorist first and foremost. Beydoun recently went to a hair show and got certified for using the Brazilian smoothing system, a new way to provide extra color and depth to highlighted hair.
The techniques and the innovative designs they provide help give the “homey, cozy” atmosphere of I.Design a little extra pep and give customers the best of both large, cutting-edge salons and smaller ones with personalized customer service.
The secret is in the passion and commitment of the employees to excellence because in this case, the employees truly make the salon what it is.
“It’s hard because I want quality work to come out and it’s hard to find people who do good work,” said Beydoun about hiring new people.
“I’m very picky about who we hire and that’s why my staff is very small. Even with the ones that are working with me, I’m still picky with them because no one should leave my salon unhappy. It’s got to be right. We treat the client right until the moment they leave.”
That special treatment keeps the customers coming back.
Mary Kay Edoff drove all the way from Brighton to get her hair done by Beydoun and has made appointments with her for 15 years.
“I love it here, they have excellent service,” she said.
