Abdul Algazali (R), a Hamtramck city councilman and candidate for state congress, being interviewed by endorsement committee members of the Arab American Political Action Committee Nabih Ayad, Samir Olabi, Abed Hammoud (Inset, R), Don Unis and Hoda Berry on Tuesday. The committee interviewed several local political candidates and will submit a report to all AAPAC members, who will vote on July 22 to make endorsements for August 5 primary elections. Algazali is running as a Democrat to represent the 5th state congressional district, which encompasses Hamtramck, Highland Park and parts of Detroit. There is currently one Arab American member of the Michigan House of Represtatives, Barbara Farrah, D-Southgate, representing the 13th district. Farrah is currently in her last term. One other Arab American is running for state congress, Rashida Tlaib, who wants to represent the 12th District, Southwest Detroit. Tlaib was interviewed by AAPAC’s endorsment committee on Saturday.
