Dearborn — Norman Finklestein, the resilient former Depaul University professor who resigned after an all out attack from the right-wing propagandist attorney Alan Dershowitz, will address the Metro Detroit community in an event open to the public and the media on Friday, Sept. 26.
The speaking engagement was scheduled by local American Muslim students and supporters who seek to promote and communicate the professor’s uniquely credible critique of the American Zionist movement.
According to The Associated Press, Finklestein was described by DePaul University in a letter announcing his resignation last September as a “prolific scholar and an outstanding teacher.” The son of Jewish holocaust survivors, Finklestein raised many eyebrows and much fury from the pro-Israel lobby when he dared to question the use of charges of anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial to silence the academic critique of Israel.
Hundreds of students and scholars from across the country rose to Finklestein’s defense when he came under attack by the right-wing smear machine of high-powered Jewish attorney Alan Dershowitz whose book ,”The Case for Israel,” has been disseminated to influential politicians as a must-read for supporters of the Zionist state. Finklestein has done a great deal of work debunking the fabrications perpetrated by Dershowitz and others in his own many books including “Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History.”
Finklestein recently caught the attention of the American Arab and Lebanese communities when he appeared on Future TV, owned by Lebanese MP Saad al Hariri, and bashed the Lebanese then loyal to the governing “March 14th” coalition. He attacked the coalition for “rolling out the red carpet” for Condoleezza Rice after the American government politically supported a month-long bombing campaign in the summer of 2006 which left over 1,000 civilians dead and the country’s economy, environment and infrastructure in ruins.
The book will be available for purchase at his sole speaking event at the Islamic House of Wisdom at 22575 Ann Arbor Trail in Dearborn Heights on Friday, Sept. 26th at 8:45 pm. The public and media are invited to attend free of charge.
