Residents also advised about new rules for loose leaf collection
DEARBORN — Enforcement begins in Dearborn the week of Oct. 6-10 of the rules that prohibit on-street parking during Public Service Days.
Public Service Days mean cleaner neighborhoods. To allow work crews the chance to deliver the maximum level of services like street sweeping and loose leaf pickup (see below for details), you must move your parked vehicles off the street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on your neighborhood’s Public Service Days.
It’s important to know when your neighborhood’s Public Service Days take place. They occur on your neighborhood’s regular trash pickup day during the first full week and third full week of every month. The first full week of each month is the one that has the first Monday of the month in it; the third full week is the one with the third Monday of the month in it.
For example, if your regular trash pickup day is Wednesday, your Public Service Days are the Wednesdays of the first and third full weeks of each month.
Please remember that city ordinance prohibits putting trash containers in the street at any time, including your trash pickup day or any Public Service Day. All trash, yard waste and recycling must be placed on the easement.
Failure to comply with the rules prohibiting on-street parking during Public Service Days can result in receiving a citation costing $35 to $70, and vehicles being towed at owners’ expense.
For complete details about Public Service Days, including a map and schedule, visit www.cityofdearborn.org. (Those without internet access can call 943.2085 or check their 2008 City Calendar.) You can also refer to street signs that are being installed throughout Dearborn that explain the parking rules.
It may not be possible to remove your parked vehicle(s) from the street because of a physical situation beyond your control. If so, you may be eligible for a parking exemption permit that would allow parking on the street (in front of your own property only) on Public Service Days.
To apply for a parking exemption, visit www.cityofdearborn.org, call 943.2276 or go to the front desk of Police Headquarters, 16099 Michigan Avenue.
