TROY — The Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC) will host its fourth annual Arab American and Chaldean Cancer Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment Forum on Thursday, October 9, 2008. The event will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 2442 E. Big Beaver Road in Troy from 6-8 p.m. Dinner is free and three doctors will be guest speakers for the evening. “The event’s purpose is to educate and increase awareness about the important of cancer prevention, and more importantly obtaining cancer screenings,” said Monty Fakhouri, Director of Public Health for the ACC. “Proper screening greatly increases chances of survival.” A question and answer session will also take place and attendees can discuss and follow up with representatives of the Beaumont Cancer Institute and hospital. They can also register for cancer screenings or get info on people to call to schedule a cancer screening. “Right now a lot of folks aren’t getting these things because of a lack of healthcare coverage so we’re here to assist them in that process,” said Fakhouri.
To register for the event, call 248.551.1219 or 248.559-1990.
