DEARBORN – The city is asking residents to help get roads plowed faster during heavy snowfall this season by getting parked vehicles off streets when storms are predicted.
“Keeping parked vehicles off of the street allows snow plows to work faster, and more effectively and safely, since they can plow curb-to-curb instead of working around vehicles parked on the street,” said city spokespeople in a release. “Remember that when the City of Dearborn declares a snow emergency, you must remove your parked vehicles from the street or you could be ticketed and your vehicles could be towed. Police do not issue warnings.”
A snow emergency is generally declared when snowfall of three inches or more over a short period of time is predicted.
City ordinance allows vehicles in a driveway to be parked across a sidewalk without penalty when snow plowing is needed.
Notice of snow emergencies are be posted at www.cityofdearborn.org and on CDTV — channel 12 on Comcast, channel 10 on WOW — and the city’s emergency warning sirens go off when a snow emergency is declared.
Residents can also call the snow emergency hotline at 943.2444.
