A special showing of the critically acclaimed and Academy Award nominated Israeli film “Waltz With Bashir” will be held on Saturday, February 28, at the Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor.
This is perhaps the most highly regarded film to ever come out of Israel. It has already won the National Society of Film Critics award for Best Picture, the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, six Israeli Academy Awards including Best Picture, and a long list of other commendations including being nominated for the U.S. Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.
The film deals with the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon, and in particular the massacres at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps. This special showing, hosted by Brit Tzedek v’Shalom, will include a brief presentation after the film about the story’s relevance for today. Speakers will include Avi Eisbruch, who served as a doctor in the Israeli army in Lebanon, and was one of the earliest members of Peace Now.
Following these presentations in the theater, interested people are invited to a longer open discussion with light refreshments at the conveniently located 1st Baptist Church, which is just across the street from the back of the Michigan Theater.
Doors open at 6:30 pm, film begins at 7:00 pm.
