DETROIT — The most beloved family entertainment band in the world, The Wiggles, are setting out on their wildest adventure to date. The fab four from down under are back with a brand new live show! This spectacular musical extravaganza will showcase old favorites as well as their latest hit “Monkey Man” featuring Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue from their most recent album “The Wiggles Go Bananas.” The Wiggles, Captain Feathersword, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Henry the Octopus, Wags the Dog and all the Wiggly Dancers invite their fans to join them as they “Go Bananas Live!” at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Friday, August 14th for shows at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Anthony (Field) Wiggle talked with The Arab American News this week and said the group is excited about returning to the D. “Last year we went to Greektown and went to a Greek restaurant,” he said. “The city’s really fantastic, it’s a great place,” said Field, adding that he also loved seeing the Red Wings in person, his first experience at a hockey game.
The show will feature a multi-cultural list of song numbers. The cast will also pull off dance numbers and circus-style moves including acrobatic stunts coordinated by a former Russian Olympic gymnastics coach for the kids.
Field said that while there is no Arabic music in the show yet, The Wiggles are looking to incorporate some of it for a future show or DVD.
“We’ve done Irish songs, Italian songs, lots of different songs,” Field said.
“My sister (Anne) lives in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). She’s been bugging me for years to do an Arab song, and in the next year or so we’re definitely going to do one.”
Field looks forward to seeing plenty of happy kids in the audience at the Palace for the group’s next visit.
“Kids are going to have a great time and that’s what it’s all about,” he said. “No matter where we are people enjoy it and the families are there to enjoy the children enjoying it and that’s what makes it a great show.”
Tickets are on sale now and are available through all Ticketmaster locations (www.ticketmaster.com) or by calling 1.800.745-3000 and The Palace of Auburn Hills box office. Seating for tickets purchased at the $36.50 level will take place in the “hot potato seats” and will include an exclusive Wiggles giveaway.
There are Wiggles show protocols: Having fun with your favorite wiggly pal as they sing and dance through the audience; starting the fun at home by creating a Wiggles sign and/or dressing up as your favorite character to attend the show; yelling “Wake up, Jeff!” whenever the loveable Purple Wiggle falls asleep onstage; and bringing roses for dancing pal Dorothy the Dinosaur, and bones for canine comedian Wags the Dog, that The Wiggles and Wiggly Dancers collect during the show.
This year The Wiggles are proud to support the nationwide early literacy program Reach Out and Read on their “Go Bananas Live!” summer tour. Reach Out and Read (ROR) trains doctors and nurses to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give books to children between 6 months and 5 years old at regular pediatric checkups. The Wiggles would like to encourage every family attending the upcoming performances to join them in supporting Reach Out and Read Programs in Michigan by bringing a new children’s book that will be donated to a child in need in your area! For a list of recommended books, visit The Wiggles website – www.thewiggles.com. Reach Out and Read has always said that “Reading is doctor-recommended.” Now reading is Wiggle-recommended too!
Children can have even more wiggly fun while they wait for the big day, as The Wiggles are proud to announce the launch of www.WiggleTime.com, their brand new virtual world for children.
