DEARBORN – It’s a season of new beginnings for the Dearborn, Dearborn Edsel Ford, and Dearborn Fordson programs as the three high school football teams each move into the newly-created Western Wayne County Blue Division.

And if it turns out anything like last season, there will be plenty of happy football fans in the area as all three schools made the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s playoffs last year.

Last year, bitter rivals the Dearborn Pioneers and Dearborn Fordson Tractors played against each other in the Mega Red Division with the Tractors winning the head-to-head battle by a score of 24-14 along with league title honors.

The Tractors made it all the way to the state semi-final game after an undefeated regular season, one game away from a trip to Ford Field in Detroit, before falling to the Lake Orion Dragons in freezing temperatures.

This year, the Tractors will have to contend with both the Pioneers and the Thunderbirds of Edsel Ford in the same division along with the Romulus Eagles and the Belleville Tigers. The Thunderbirds and Eagles came from the blue division while the Tigers came from the red division.

Fordson’s city championship rivalry game with the Pioneers will take place on September 18, 2009 at Dearborn High School, and it could decide the league title this year.

While high school football can be unpredictable and many things can change from now until the opening weekend of August 28, the three Dearborn schools are expected to be the main title contenders in the division based on last year’s records.

The Dearborn schools went a combined 27-7 last year while Romulus and Belleville combined for a dismal record of 4-14.

While summer is still in full swing, football season is right around the corner yet again. Each Dearborn school will open the season on August 28th with three separate 7 p.m. games in what should be one of the most exciting seasons in the city in recent memory.
