Fifteen Detroit-area U.S. Postal Service locations may have to close.
Officials have said the Postal Service has lost $4.7 billion so far this year and expects the number to grow to $7 billion by the end of the fiscal year, because of the recession and increased use of electronic billing and messaging.
The agency has proposed cutting mail delivery to five days a week to cut costs.
The offices in the area being reviewed for possible consolidation include:
Ann Arbor: South University Postal Store, 1210 S. University
Dearborn: Maple Finance Station, 4500 Maple, and Teleford Station, 23823 Ford Road, Dearborn
Detroit: Penobscot Finance Station, 645 Griswold Suite 100, Fisher Finance Station, 3011 W. Grand Blvd., Linwood Station, 2701 Joy Road, Harper Station, 10254 Gratiot Ave., Renaissance Finance Station, 200 Ren Cen L3, and Old Redford Finance Station, 22503 Grand River Ave.
Hamtramck: Hamtramck Finance Station, 2933 Caniff St.
Mt. Clemens: Selfridge Finance Station, 44580 Jefferson Ave.
Pontiac: Phoenix Finance Station, 45 Oakland Ave.
Wayne: Wayne Post Office, 3716 Newberry
Westland: Westland Mall Finance Station, 35000 Warren Road.
