Group seeks nominations for Arab American of the Year
The American Arab Professionals Network is accepting nominations for Arab American of the year in the fields of education, finance, law, medicine and entrepreneurship.
The group is to present the awards at a May 19 banquet.
“The American Arab Professionals Network recognizes American-Arab professionals in the Detroit area that serve as mentors, and role models for other American-Arabs in the region,” the group said in a release.
Nomination forms are available at the American Arab Chamber of Commerce website, www.americanarab.com.

Free help with taxes for seniors
DEARBORN — The City of Dearborn’s Senior Services Division is offering residents with low to moderate income free help with preparing tax forms .
American Association of Retired Persons volunteers will help with 2009 state and federal income tax filings, including the Michigan Home Heating Credit and the Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit, on a first-come, first serve basis at the following dates and locations:
• Dearborn Senior Center — inside the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Avenue, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays through April 15 except April 2.
• Kennedy Plaza, 5111 Bingham,. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.
• Hubbard Manor West, 22077 Beech, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 19 and 26.

Ask and you shall be treed
DEARBORN — Beginning Feb. 16, Dearborn residents can order a tree to be planted on the easement in front of their home for $25.
The parks division of the city’s Public Works Department will take orders for 250 available trees. Residents can choose from an assortment of trees, including Celebration Maple, Yellow Wood, Corzam or Corinthian, Japanese Pagoda, Katsura or Caramel, Maidenhair, Golden Rain, Hardy Rubber and Corktree. Spring Snow Crabapple is available only for areas where there are overhead wires. City personnel must approve the location of the tree.
