DEARBORN — After a successful run for Dearborn City Council last fall that saw her garner the second most votes in the race to become council president pro-tem, Arab American Suzanne Sareini will now turn her attention to another race as she will attempt to win the 15th District seat in the Michigan House of Representatives.

Sareini joins fellow councilman and Arab American George Darany in the race and will enter as a Republican for the seat, which was left unoccupied because of Gino Polidori reaching his term limit. The 15th District covers the entire city of Dearborn except for a few voting precincts in the northeast part of the city.Sareini has been a resident of Dearborn her entire life and graduated from Fordson High School in 1969. She also has been a member of city council since 1989. She is a mother of 4 and a grandmother of 13 with twenty years of legislative experience to her name thus far in her career. She said she wants to make job creation her number-one priority if elected as state representative while focusing on creating more unity between political party lines in order to get more things done.”It is time for independent voices to be heard and my legislative record of building coalitions between Democrats, Republicans, and Independents will be helpful in being ready on day one to serve Dearborn,” Sareini said in a press release. “We’ve had enough of partisan rhetoric and partisan greed; I want to make Michigan work again.”Sareini plans to run another aggressive door-to-door campaign in order to turn out votes for the November 2010 election.”I don’t know of any other way to ask for a vote than to do it one house at a time,” Sareini said. “Dearborn works. Lansing doesn’t. Our neighborhoods are safe and our citizens value good schools, clean streets, and common sense solutions. I intend to work hard, run hard, and earn very vote and win in November.”Sareini has launched a Website called Sareini4StateRep.com and plans to hold her first fundraiser on Tuesday, April 27 from 5-7 pm at Crave Restaurant in Dearborn.
