LATHRUP VILLAGE – The Arab American Chaldean Council’s Summer Program recently received a boost thanks to a campaign run by the Detroit Free Press.
The ACC’s Summer Program was selected for the Free Press’ 2010 Summer Dreams Campaign, which will allow donations beginning May 9th to the ACC summer camp program to be matched dollar-for-dollar.
The camp will meet the needs of underprivileged youth who need supplemental English skills to build performance.
In addition to language learning, the program activities will include academic and literacy assistance, arts and crafts, and soccer.
The main goal is to improve academic performance while promoting leadership skills, healthy lifestyles, and teamwork.
“The Free Press Summer Dreams program is all about providing fun and safe summertime experiences across Michigan, experiences to change lives, memories to last a lifetime,” said Free Press Community Affairs Director Deb Scola.
Donations will provide items such as art supplies and soccer equipment in addition to other supplies to help kids enjoy their camp experience.
