DEARBORN — Gary Woronchak (D-Dearborn) and Scott J. Saionz (R-Dearborn) are candidates competing during the state general election Nov.2. to serve the 13th district of the Wayne County Commission. Waronchak is the incumbent Wayne County Commissioner, and has served the district since 2004. District 13 represents Allen Park, Dearborn and Melvindale. Commission elections are held every two years.
Wayne County Commissioners are obligated to enact ordinances, balance the budget, approve contracts and rules. Prior to serving on the commission, Woronchak served six years as a state representative. Before becoming active in politics, Waronchak was a journalist for a local publication for 23-years and also managed the Daily Tribune in Royal Oak. He was raised and educated in Dearborn. Saionz is the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority (EDDDA) commissioner, treasurer and secretary of seven years. Saionz is also the ambassador of the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce and president of the Georgetown Commons Board of Directors. Prior to his position with EDDDA he worked for Ford Motor Company as a design engineer. Saionz stayed with Ford for 16 years.
