DEARBORN — The Upper Peninsula-based Lake Superior State University (LSSU) has founded its first satellite campus in metro Detroit in the city of Dearborn with classes set to begin this fall.
The new site will be called the Dearborn University Consortium Center and will allow Henry Ford Community College (HFCC) students to complete their bachelor’s degrees at the center thanks to agreements between HFCC and LSSU.
LSSU, which is based in Sault Ste. Marie, will lease space for the center from the Advanced Technology Academy, a school chartered by the college.
Programs for the completion of bachelor’s degrees include criminal justice and business starting in the fall semester for students who began their careers at community colleges and the college hopes to enroll between 75 and 100 students.
The Ford Motor Company’s Partnership for Advanced Studies will also offer curriculum through the new LSSU campus.
LSSU plans to add similar programs in computer networking, web development, and geographic information systems in the future.
