A cross-country manhunt ended with the arrest of suspected serial stabber Elias Abuelazam on Wednesday at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Abuelazam, 33, an Israeli native, was attempting to board a flight to Tel Aviv.
Police believe that Abuelazam is responsible for 18 attacks in three states with 14 of them taking place in Flint including all five deaths.
Most of the victims were African American and all were men.
A phone tip called in anonymously to the Michigan State Police’s tip line led authorities to the Kingwater Market in Mt. Morris near Flint where Abuelazam had worked for about a month’s time and gave them a lead on the case.
A crowd gathered at the store this morning with some yelling threats at owner Abdullah Farah. According to police, Farah helped them in the investigation that led to the arrest of Abuelazam, although the original tipster has remained anonymous.
Abuelazam’s family reportedly lives in Ramleh, a mixed Arab-Jewish town in the center of Israel. He was in the U.S. on a valid green card according to reports and moved to Flint in May after having lived there in the mid-90’s.
