In response to threats of a Florida pastor burning Qur’ans this weekend, two interfaith prayers are expected to be held in support of peace and understanding this weekend in Detroit and Dearborn.
Members of all faiths are invited to the two events, which are supported by the Islamic Center of America and other local Islamic organizations along with the Basilica of St. Mary in Livonia and the Congress of Arab American Organizations among others.
The first event will be held on Friday, September 10 at the Second Ebeneezer Church in Detroit at 14601 Dequindre St. from 4-5 p.m. featuring an interfaith prayer for the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
The second event will be held at the Islamic Center of America at 19500 Ford Road in Dearborn at 7:30 p.m. including a second interfaith prayer and candlelight vigil for the 9/11 victims.
The theme of the events is “standing together for peace and tolerance against hate and violence” and many additional organizations and public figures are expected to show their support.
