Harvard students and several organizations are expressing anger about the school’s Department of Social Studies recent decision to honor Marty Peretz, editor-in-chief of the New Republic magazine with a $650,000 fund that is being created in his name. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) expressed dismay about the decision. ADC called Peretz out for the recent public remarks he made about Muslim –Americans not being worthy of First Amendment rights. ADC said the comments are deeply offensive and not worthy of being honored. Peretz has a 25-year history of making what the students deemed bigoted comments about African-American, Latinos and Arabs. Although Harvard students and several of its organizations have spoken out against Peretz the decision to honor him hasn’t been repealed.
