Maher “Mike” Jaafar was honored at a promotional ceremony program on Nov.11 at the Bint Jebail Cultural Center in Dearborn for recently stepping up to the position of Deputy Chief of Communication Affairs for Wayne County. In August 2009 Wayne County Sherriff Benny Napoleaon appointed Jaafar as Director of Law Enforcement and Business Affairs. Jaafar is a former Detroit Police officer.

Maher’s promotion drew in a large crowd of Arab Americans to the ceremony which included several law enforcement officials from Wayne County and Dearborn.

 Others who were honored along with Jaafar include Kristina Robinson, Patrick Melton and Charles Paddock. “Maher I am proud of you for working to do good in our community,” Bint Jebail Cultural Center founder Mohamed Turfe said.  Napoleon called Wayne County’s office diverse and said it represents all cross sections of the community.  “I’m very honored about the support from the community. I really thank the community for this opportunity. I’m up for the task and will use it to give back to the community, Jaafar said.
