DEARBORN — Panera Cares, a non-profit community café in Dearborn, is now open. Its location, 22208 Michigan Ave. in West Dearborn, is the second built in the U.S. by the Panera Bread Foundation. There are no prices or cash registers, only suggested donation levels and donation bins. People are encouraged to take what they need and donate their fair share. Extra funds will be used to provide disadvantaged youth with job training. The company is expected to make $100 million to $150 million in charitable proceeds this year. The location opened in response to the success of the first store in Clayton, MO. Dearborn was selected as the second location based on its diverse population of individuals who could use the help.
