The Salvation Army, a charity organization, has teamed up with JC Penny to increase the amount of charitable giving throughout the holidays by allowing customers to donate gifts to those in need by buying online.
“The Salvation Army is preparing for what is expected to be another record number of families seeking help this Christmas,” said Major George Hood, national community relations and development secretary for The Salvation Army in a press release. “With the need greater than ever, we appreciate JC Penney’s commitment to continue this program so that more children and seniors living in poverty can experience the joy that one small Christmas gift can bring.”
The Angel Giving Tree is a 40 year old charitable program that like others has seen a decline in the amount of charitable giving due to the economic hardships that most are enduring. With JC Penny, the adoption and shopping process are online.
Customers start with a short selection process for an “Angel” or a recipient of a donation. After selecting a recipient, they will receive an email with the recipient’s wish list, shipping information, and a drop-off location in the recipient’s area.
From UPS, all gifts purchased can be shipped free to the Salvation Army Center closest to the donation’s recipient
“Now, more than ever, customers want to make a difference during the holidays,” said Thomas M. Nealon, group executive vice president for JC Penney in a press release. ” We’ve made it easier for customers to give back in a meaningful way, and we feel confident that support for those less fortunate will only continue to grow.”
For delivery by Christmas, adoptions and online purchases must be made before December 10 and gift cards by December 14. For more information or to donate, visit www.jcp.com/angel.
