Last Monday, Ford Motor Company announced it would add 7,000 new jobs around the United States by the end of 2012. An estimated 750 engineering jobs are expected to come to Dearborn as part of the hirings. Ford is preparing to launch more SUVs and a line of hybrid electric cars. Ford reportedly earned a profit of $8.2 billion in 2010, when its sales increased 19.5 percent. The company plans on expanding its lineup of fuel efficient cars, with a new emphasis on plug-in hybrids and all-electric cars. Ford President and Chief Executive Alan Mulally recently said Ford would have among the most comprehensive electrification strategy available.
The company has a strong presence at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and has been reportedly recruiting engineers during press week. The show is expected to open to the public on Saturday, Jan. 15 at Cobo Arena.
