DEARBORN — To keep Dearborn neighborhoods attractive city officials are encouraging residents to plant trees in front of their homes. The new initiative also reduces energy consumption and supports a healthier environment. Through a low cost program offered by the Department of Public Works residents can order trees and plant them in front of their homes between the sidewalk and curb. Trees are $100 each, sold on a first come first serve basis and will be planted by a contractor. To order one call the DPW at 313.943.2317. You must be a Dearborn resident to make the purchase. Orders are being accepted after Feb. 14 and come with a one year warranty. Trees will be planted in late April and are expected to be complete by June. Homes will be inspected by DPW officials to see if there is enough space for planting. The following trees are available to order: Ivory Silk, Japanese Lilac, Corktree, Hardy Rubber, Golden Rain, Ginkgo Maidenhair, Lustre Allegheny, Serviceberry, Japanese Pagoda, American Yellowood, Celebration Maple and Corzam or Corinthian Linden.
