The Michigan Citizens United group filed a proposed recall
petition wording with Washtenaw County election officials according to local news
reports, seeking to remove Snyder from office as Michigan’s governor.
The group will need 807,000 valid signatures in order for
the recall petition to appear on the ballot in November.
Michigan Citizens United said they are opposed to a law
signed by Snyder that gives more power to unelected emergency managers
appointed by the state to cut costs at schools and local governments.
The emergency financial manager of the city of Benton Harbor
recently issued an order stripping all city boards and commissions of all
authority to take actions according to the Michigan Messenger. Detroit Public
Schools’ emergency financial manager Robert Bobb also has drawn the ire of
large groups of protesters.
Snyder’s budget plan released in the mid-part of February
led to a 15-percentage point drop. His approval rating was 45% at the end of
March according to a survey by Michigan State University.
