A gun reportedly belonging to highly controversial Pastor Terry Jones of Gainesville, Florida went off outside the Fox 2 studio late Thursday night. Jones is in town for a protest against what he terms “shari’a law” and “radical Islam” and is currently seeking court approval for a permit to hold his protest in front of the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn. Jones’ associate Wayne Sapp told TAAN on Wednesday that he and Jones planned to carry pistols for ‘personal protection.’ An interfaith vigil of nearly 1,000 people of various backgrounds was held at the Islamic Center of America on Thursday ahead of Jones’ planned Friday protest in support of religious tolerance. Jones was leaving the set of a discussion program called “Let it Rip” between himself, Imam Hassan al-Qazwini of the Islamic Center of America, and Reverend Ed Rowe of the Central United Methodist Church in Detroit with anchor Huel Perkins moderating. No one was hurt or struck during the incident. For more info see Fox 2 News’ article on the situation. A unity rally will be held at 16301 Michigan Avenue today at 4 p.m. to promote tolerance and solidarity against the forces of division and hate.
