DEARBORN HEIGHTS — More than 40 people gathered at Al-Amer
restaurant in Dearborn Heights for a breakfast held by the American Lebanese
University Graduates (ALUG). ALUG
was formed in 1996 with the objective of bringing together university graduates
of Lebanese decent with various degrees.
During the
breakfast the re-birth of the organization was announced. In the past the ALUG
has supported the community by awarding scholarships. Madonna University Physics Professor, Dr. Afif Jawad, asked
the crowd to introduce themselves in the friendly and encouraging atmosphere.
Afif is also ALUG’s treasurer.
Dr. Badih Jawad, chairman of the Mechanical Engineering
Department at Lawrence Technological University and AGLU chairman, spoke about
the organization’s history and successful accomplishments. ALUG once had a
weekly television program inviting judges, attorneys, medical doctors,
professors, social workers among others to address educational and social
topics.
Attendees agreed to participate in future gatherings, and to
encourage other Lebanese graduates to join and take advantage of the
professional networking opportunity.
