BIRMINGHAM — The National Arab American Medical
Association, a non-political
professional and humanitarian organization of physicians, has issued a
statement concerning the security situation in Syria. The statement says the
organization “continues to
watch with a heavy heart the incidents in parts of Syria and deplores the
violence in Syria that has resulted in profound human suffering and loss of
life.
“NAAMA’s urgent concern is the safety and dignity of
our Syrian brothers and sisters. We urge all sides to respect the sanctity of
human life. We call for the immediate cessation of acts that jeopardize the
life of innocents, and stand ready to assist in anyway in the medical and
humanitarian needs of those most vulnerable, especially women and children.
“As we fear the continued aggression, regardless of its
source, our thoughts are with the families of victims and their loved ones.
“NAAMA is ready to help with any effort to provide
humanitarian aid to those affected, and is exploring all ways to assist our
Syrian physician colleagues and health care professionals in their medical
relief mission.”
Founded in 1975, NAAMA is a non-profit professional,
educational and humanitarian organization for Arab American physicians,
dentists, pharmacists and other licensed healthcare professionals. NAAMA’s
nearly 1,500 members across the United States in 27 chapters represent multiple
