Comedian Ahmed Ahmed |
ROYAL OAK — Egyptian-American comedian Ahmed Ahmed will be bringing
his directorial debut film “Just Like Us” to Michigan on July 8,
where the film will open at the Landmark Main Art Theater.
The film, presented by Cross Cultural Entertainment and
Cross Cultural Productions, opened in selected cities across the country on
June 10 to rave reviews by Variety and the Huffington Post. It documents four
countries in the Middle East, showcasing the cultures of Dubai, Lebanon, Saudi
Arabia and Egypt.
The documentary features Ahmed Ahmed, along with a group of
stand up comedians, many of them from the United States, showcasing their
talents and sense of humor in front of sold out crowds of over 20,000 in the
select countries. The film follows these comedians on a journey as they are
surprised and delighted by the warm reception they receive from the people of
the Middle East.
While standup comedy has been a common art form in the West,
it only broke through recently in the Middle East. Ahmed believes that stand up
has the power to provide relief, encourage a younger generation, break down
barriers and serve as a platform for cross cultural dialogue.
Ahmed and the production company hope the film will showcase
Arabs and Muslims in a different light, putting an end to the misconception
that they have no sense of humor. For more information about showtimes, visit
