DEARBORN – Police are hoping that someone will help identify and find the driver of a vehicle that struck a 79-year-old man in the city on Sunday, July 3.
The man was crossing the street at the south side of Warren Road at Freda Street at 5:30 p.m. when a 1997-1999 light green-colored four-door Ford Escort struck him, sending him flying a few feet before he eventually rolled to a stop on the pavement.
The vehicle had been turning right onto Freda on the city’s east side near Wyoming Street. After striking the man, the driver, identified as a clean-shaven white male about 30 years old by witnesses, stopped for a few seconds to look at the victim lying in the street, backed up, and drove around him to his right before fleeing into a nearby alleyway.
“The assistance of the community will be crucial in helping to locate this driver if he chooses not to contact us himself,” said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad.
Those with information on a possible suspect should call the Dearborn Police Accident Investigation Bureau at 313.943.2245 at anytime.
