DEARBORN – The severe thunderstorm that blew through the city on Monday led to more 70 downed trees according to city officials.
Three house fires were also reported as were reports of about 100 downed wires and more than 500 calls to 9-11 during the storm.
The city also said that about 20 people were transported for hospital care but most of the emergencies were not related to the storm. Dry ice was expected to be handed out to the many residents who lost power as well by the city.
In addition, the Dearborn Dept. of Public Works announced it will be tree limb removal due to the storm. Dearborn residents are asked to put the large branches at the curb. Due to the number of limbs that will need to be processed, DPW anticipates that it may take a minimum of two to three weeks for all the limbs to be removed.
Residents can also bundle smaller limbs that have been cut into four feet or less to be picked up on the regular trash day days. Removal of large branches that have come down on resident’s property other than on the easement are the responsibility of the homeowner, however.
For information on tree removal on the public easement, contact the Department of Public Works at 313.943.2085.
