DEARBORN — Last Sunday, July 17, members of the community came together at Hemlock Park in Dearborn, Michigan to celebrate the birthday of Imam Mahdi, who Shi’a Muslims consider to be the Awaited Savior along with Jesus.
The event was attended by 2000 people according to its organizers and included a diverse range of people from different demographics. Muslims and non-Muslims alike came out to celebrate, enjoy family games and attractions, and learn more about Imam Mahdi and Muslims in general. Event attendees were also able to enter into a drawing to win several prizes by answering questions about Imam Mahdi.
The Imam Mahdi Celebration Event was staffed by close to 70 volunteers, many of whom worked in over 90 degree weather throughout the day. Also present at the event was a registration and information table for the newly launched weekend Islamic school, The AhlulBayt Academy.
