DETROIT — A study from the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments says that more than 3,500 car accidents were caused by running red lights last year. Analysts say that distractions including eating, putting on make-up, kids and other passengers have been to blame in many cases.
One thousand nine hundred of the accidents resulted in deaths according to SEMCOG. Dearborn, Detroit, Sterling Heights, Warren and Livonia have the most red-light running crashes according to a three-year average calculated. In response, the Federal Highway Administration has launched a week-long campaign against the problem according to WWJ.
