DEARBORN — On Saturday, August 20, 2011, CAIR-MI will join lawmakers, advocates and concerned community members for a rally in Southwest Detroit to protest discrimination and profiling by U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs Border Protection (CBP).

 In recent months, CAIR-MI has received numerous complaints regarding CBP agents detaining Michigan Muslims and asking invasive questions regarding religious practice.

Michigan Latinos have also raised concerns of Border Patrol racially profiling and detaining American citizens under the false assumption of being undocumented. 

“Law-abiding Americans continue to be unreasonably detained and asked intrusive questions based upon their physical appearance and names by CBP and Border Patrol,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid. “We are in solidarity with lawmakers, labor leaders and other civil rights advocates in calling for an end to racial profiling at our borders.”  

 The march will be held at Clark Park, 1130 Clark Street, Detroit, MI and begin at noon.

 Also scheduled to join the rally are Congressman John Conyers (D-MI), Congressman Hansen Clarke (D-MI), MI State Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit), UAW President Bob King, and representatives from Reform Immigration for America, ACCESS, NAACP and more.
