DETROIT — Ahlam Mohsen and Max Kantar pled guilty last week to a federal charge of assaulting a Member of Congress stemming from an August 2010 incident.
Mohsen, 23, a graduate of Michigan State University, hit U.S. Sen. Carl Levin (D-Michigan) in the face with an apple pie at a deli in Big Rapids leading to the charges. Kantar had read a statement prior to the incident saying the crust was removed from the pie to “insure no physical harm” to the Senator.
Each was sentenced to 30 days in jail for their role.
Mohsen and Kantar said they opposed U.S. wars overseas resulting in the deaths of innocent children which was motivation for the plan.
