ANN ARBOR — A new poll from C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital shows that most parents are not aware of their children’s drug or alcohol habits.
Only about 10 percent of parents of teens said they believed their kids used marijuana while only 10 percent believed they drank alcohol.
But the numbers compare to 28 percent of 10th graders who have used marijuana and 52 of those who have drank alcohol, showing a wide gap.
Parents are urged to talk about substance use in a non-threatening way, to monitor them for signs of abuse and to talk with other parents and friends to obtain information. They are also encouraged to use resources from the www.nida.nih.gov, the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
