LANSING — Governor Rick Snyder had hoped that a measure necessary to begin the push toward a new international bridge from Michigan to Canada would be approved, but it died in a state Senate committee late last week.
With approval highly unlikely, Snyder’s administration will now look at other options after admitting it was disappointed with the result. Snyder wants to improve Chicago-to-Montreal transportation.
He had also hoped the bridge could be used to leverage millions in bridge and road money for statewide projects. Current Ambassador Bridge owner Manuel “Matty” Maroun had financed a series of ads against the second bridge that many had questioned for accuracy reasons, including an independent watchdog group.
