DEARBORN — On Friday, Nov. 11, Oussama Abouarabi, a cab driver, was stabbed 16 times by a customer who was picked up at the city’s Hyatt Regency Hotel.
After sitting down in the backseat, the man reportedly said he wanted to go to Mexican Town but then said he didn’t like the route that was being taken and told him to travel on I-96 instead, according to a report from WXYZ-TV Detroit.
The passenger told Abouarabi to drop him off at a house near I-96 and Joy Road. After asking the man for the $35 fare, the man lunged forward and stabbed him in his neck and arm. Abouarabi had been reaching for his seatbelt according to his brother Nasser.
Oussama Abouarabi drove five miles even as the man was attempting to kill him. He steped out of the car in front of Motor City Casino in Detroit, got dizzy and fell down before the attacker ran away.
His brother told WXYZ he still doesn’t know why he was attacked, but the man was reportedly arrested as he went back to his hotel room at the Hyatt. g
