DEARBORN — ADC-Michigan has announced award recipients to be honored at its Annual Awards Gala on Friday, December 9, 2011, at 6:00 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
This year’s recipients include Kim Redigan and Rev. William Gepford for the Michigan Building Bridges Award. Kim is a long time Michigan Peace Team member who has been at the forefront of fighting for justice and civil liberties at home here in the U.S. and abroad. Rev. Gepford of the Littlefield Presbyterian Church is a long time advocate of building bridges of understanding including through interfaith activities.
Laila El-Haddad, activist, blogger and author of “Gaza Mom” will be the recipient of the ADC Michigan Literary Leadership Award.
“Fordson: Faith, Fasting Football,” a critically-acclaimed documentary about the majority Arab Muslim Fordson High School football team, will also be spotlighted through awards to the movie’s producers Rashid Ghazi, Ash-har Quraishi and Basma Babar-Quraishi, with the Trailblazer in Media & Entertainment Award.
Cairo bureau chief Leila Fadel of the Washington Post will also be awarded with the Excellence in Journalism and Foreign Reporting Award and renowned pianist and international sensation Waleed Howrani will perform his original score, “Lebanese Rhapsody”; he is also the recipient of the ADC Michigan Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award.
