WASHINGTON, DC – Linda Sarsour, a staff member of the National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC), was be among 10 community leaders honored at the White House Thursday as “Champions of Change. “The honorees, including nonprofit leaders, community activists and mentors, are being celebrated for their work “ to improve the lives of others through charitable work, faith and advocacy,” the White House said. Sarsour, who is Palestinian, is a New York-based advocacy and civic engagement coordinator who conducts training nationally on the importance of civic engagement in American Arab and Muslim communities. “It’s been a difficult 10 years for the Arab and Muslim community but we haven’t lost focus of what’s important: building the capacity of our institutions, empowering our community and building strategic allies and partnerships.”
