DETROIT – Due to budget issues, route cuts for the SMART bus system went into effect this week with buses no longer running into downtown Detroit except during rush hour traffic.
A total of 22 percent of all routes have been cut including 15 weekday routes according to WWJ.
SMART has reportedly lost about $12 million in revenue in recent years. The company is receiving negative feedback for the cuts, which also extended into downriver and other areas. About 123 workers also lost their jobs due to the cuts.
