‘London River,’ a film set against the backdrop of the July 7, 2005 attacks of London, opens in select theaters this month across the country. The film will make its way to Dearborn on Friday, January 13th, where audiences can witness a tail of two people coming together from different parts of the world and putting their differences aside to find their loved ones. 

The film, directed by Academy Award Nominee Rachid Bouchareb, was inspired by the aftermath of the 7/7 bombings in London when a series of co-coordinated suicide attacks, targeting civilians using the public transportation system during the morning rush-hour, disabled the city. 

The film stars Brenda Blethyn as Elizabeth, who is on the search for her missing daughter after the attacks when she learns that her daughter lives in an area surrounded by Muslims. Her fear and prejiduce escalates when she learns that her missing daughter had converted to Islam. The second main character in the film, Ousmane, played by Sotigui Kouyaté, is a west African who has come from France and is on the search for his son but keeps running into Elizabeth. Together, they share the hope of finding their children alive. 

 “All my films are concerned with the subject of meetings between different people, from different countries and different worlds,” Bouchareb said in a press release. “My film is less about the bombings themselves and more about the meeting between these two characters that takes place in its wake,” he added.  “That’s what is important to me, that these two people who meet are united by the same problem, which is their desire to find their children.” The film opens on Friday, January 13th at AMC Star Fairlane.
